Some instructors require that students take quizzes/exam through custom browser called Respondus Lockdown Browser. This application must be installed from a Canvas Quizzes tool. There are two quizzing tools available in Canvas (Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes). To take a quiz/exam using Classic Quizzes, students launch Respondus Lockdown Browser from their desktop.(Mac users, launch from the Applications folder). To take a quiz/exam using New Quizzes, students launch Respondus LockDown browser within the quiz.

When students use the LockDown Browser to access a quiz, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Once a quiz is started, students are locked into it until it's submitted for grading.
