Department checklist

Weeks Prior (Supervisor)

  • Obtain computer (most student machines are cascades and assigned to the student's supervisor in the departmental inventory)
    • We strongly recommend getting staff computers re-imaged before the new worker starts to make sure the computer has appropriate software updates and device drivers, as well as securely erasing any old data on the computer from previous staff
  • Consider phone needs; if a new line is needed Request a New Phone Line Activation 
  • Request StoutFS access (if necessary; fees apply)
  • Request access to PeopleSoft/AccessStout resources (if necessary)
  • Request access to UWBI (if necessary)
  • Request access to ImageNow resources (if necessary)
  • Add to any email distribution lists (if necessary)
  • Grant calendar access (if necessary)

Start

  • Request scanner setup (if necessary)
  • Install printers
  • Student staff are no longer granted Administrator rights on campus computers, but permanent staff in the department can log in with ABR (Admin by Reqest) to make any changes that require account elevation

Why so many "if necessary"? None of these suggested actions is a requirement of student employment; these steps are just to serve as reminders of common needs.
