eduroam Wireless Network: Connecting on Android (Samsung/Pixel)
This article walks though how to connect to eduroam on popular Android devices, such as Samsung and Pixel.
Before you begin:
These instructions are made to be as general as possible for the multiple types of Android devices and OS versions that exist. If you run into any issues, please reach out to the Technology Helpdesk.
Samsung Instructions:
Samsung Galaxy S series instructions included here should also be the same for non-Galaxy "S" series devices, such as the "Z" (Z-Flip) series or the "A" (A55, A17, etc.) series.
- Open Settings:

- On the Settings screen, tap the Connections heading:

- On the Connections Screen, tap on the Wi-Fi heading:

- Tap eduroam from the list of available networks to enter your credentials:

- You will now need to enter the WiFi settings available to you;
Please note that all Android phones and OS versions are different. You may not see all of these options on your individual device:
- Encryption: PEAP
- Authentication Type: MSCHAPv2
- CA Certificate: Don't Validate or Use System Certificates if that is not an option
- Domain (if asked): uwstout.edu (usually asks for this if you selected Use System Certificates for the option above)
- Online Certificate Status: Don't Validate
- Identity:
- For staff, use your Stout email;
- For students, your Stout student email but without the "my." that you would normally use in your student email;
i.e. lastnamefirstinitials1234@uwstout.edu instead of @my.uwstout.edu- Note: if you're unable to log in with the @uwstout.edu appended to your username while on campus, try removing that and just use your regular username (all the stuff before the @ symbol in your email)
- Anonymous Identity (if asked): leave this field empty
- Password: use your normal Stout password
- Auto reconnect: enabled (so you don't have to manually reconnect or re-enter this info every time)

- Tap Connect - it will light up when the settings above are entered correctly.
Pixel Instructions (Android 16)
Google Pixel is another popular android smartphone with similar settings to Samsung Galaxy devices, but is different in some ways which will be covered here.
- Tap the settings app:

- Tap on Network and Internet

- Tap the Internet submenu to see WiFi and Mobile Data settings.

- Tap the eduroam WiFi network to configure it's settings:

- The defaults settings for eduroam are presented. Since this is Enterprise Wireless, we'll have to configure a few things specific to the Pixel.
Tap on the CA certificate drop menu to bring up the options:
- Tap "Use system certificates"

- Some new menu items have appeared which can be left as default, such as "Online Certificate Status" set to "Do not verify"
However, the pre-filled text under the new "Anonymous identity" field must be deleted.
- You must use your full campus email as your identity for eduroam to work correctly at other institutions. The "Domain" field must also be set to "uwstout.edu"
Faculty/Staff use the "@uwstout.edu" format
Students use the "@my.uwstout.edu" format
If you've entered them correctly, the "connect" button will become available. Correct settings (faculty/staff example pictured) look like this:
- You can tell the connection was successful as your eduroam WiFi will show "Obtaining IP address..." quickly followed by "Connected."
