PaperCut Printing (Faculty/Staff): Printing

This article describes how to print using PaperCut for standard printing or printing with multiple funding strings.

To print you will need to install the papercut printers.  Please see the following knowledge base articles on how to install papercut printers for your device:

How to Print (Windows Device)

  1. Open your file (Word document, PDF, image, etc.) in the app that supports it (like Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader, or Photos).

  2. Press Ctrl + P on your keyboard
    Or click File, then Print from the top menu.

  3. In the print window, find the dropdown or box labeled Printer.
    Click the dropdown and select the printer you want to use.
    If "Microsoft Print to PDF" is selected, change it to a real printer from the list.

  4. Set the number of copies.
    Choose which pages to print (like all pages, current page, or custom range).
    Pick orientation (portrait or landscape).
    Choose color or black & white, if available.

  5. When ready, click the Print button to send the document to your selected printer.

How to Print (Mac)

  1. Open your file (Word document, PDF, image, etc.) using the appropriate app such as Preview, Word, or Safari.

  2. Press Command + P on your keyboard
    Or click File, then select Print from the top menu bar.

  3. In the print dialog that appears, look for the Printer drop-down menu at the top.
    Click the menu and select your desired printer from the list.

  4. Choose the number of copies.
    Select which pages to print (all, current, or a custom range).
    Choose paper size, orientation, and whether to print in color or black & white if the option is available.

  5. When ready, click the Print button to send the document to your selected printer.

Printing WITH multiple funding strings

Printing with multiple funding strings requires the Papercut Client to be installed, open, and running. Please follow the steps below to install and use the Papercut Client. 

PaperCut Client Install (Windows)

  1. Click on the Start button (Blue Windows icon) at the bottom left of your screen.
  2. In the search bar, search for Software Center and open it.

  1. Find and select the PaperCut MF Client.

  1. On the next page, select Install.

  1. Once install is complete. Search for the Papercut MF Client and open it. Once launched it will stay running. (We are working on getting this to start on login, but for the time being, it will need to be launched manually.)

  1. If a window with your Balance opens, you can safely close it. You can tell if the Papercut Client is running by checking your task bar, there should be a green Papercut icon, you may need to click the up arrow to show additional icons.

  1. Send a print job like usual.
  2. A pop up will appear asking which account you’d like to charge the print job to. Select the appropriate account and then select Print.

PaperCut Client Install (Mac)

  1. Click the Launcher icon.

  2. Open Self Service from your Applications (or search for it using Spotlight).

  3. Once opened, you will sign in to Self Service using your Stout credentials.

  4. Once you are signed in, In the search bar, type PaperCut.

  5. Select PaperCut Client from the results.

  6. Click Install.

Once the PaperCut client is installed:

  1. Open the PaperCut Client application before printing.

  2. When you print, it will prompt you to select your funding string before the job is released.

If you do not see the prompt, make sure the PaperCut Client is running by finding the app and double clicking on it again.
