Touch pad (HP): Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting and things to try if a touch pad is not working as it should or your mouse is gone completely.
First, check if the provided suggestions work:
- Perform a static discharge.
- Turn your computer completely off.
- Unplug all cables and USB devices from the computer.
- Hold down the power button of your computer for around 60 seconds.
- Turn the computer back on. (this may take more time than usual)
- Open your computer's settings.
- You can access this by going to the search option on the task bar and type in settings.
- Click on the settings app that comes up.
- On the left hand selection menu click Accessibility and navigate to the Mouse pointer and touch.
- Go through the Mouse and Touch pad options and make sure your settings are as you need them to be. This could include items like sensitivity, taps and gestures.
Update touch pad drivers
- Open your computer's Device Manager. To access this, go to the search option on the task bar and type in device manager.
- Select the Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices and find the device giving you issues.
- Right click on the device and click update driver. In the case of your computer's touch pad, update the HID-compliant touch pad.

Reinstall touch pad drivers
- Open your computer's Device Manager. Again, you can access this through the search option on the task bar.
- Select the Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices and find the device giving you issues.
- Right click on the device and select Uninstall device.

- Restart your computer. Windows will automatically try to reinstall your device.
