Resetting Microsoft Authenticator

If you need to reset your Microsoft Authenticator app due to a lost or new device, app reinstallation, or account issues, follow these steps.

Cannot Access Your Account to Delete the Old Authenticator?

In order to begin the process for setting up Microsoft Authenticator on new device or repairing the Authenticator on your current device, you will need to remove the old account from Microsoft. There are a couple of options to do this, but if you no longer have access to your old phone or can not log into your account on a web browser, you will need to contact the Technology Help Desk. Contact the Technology Help Desk


Step 1: Removing your Old Account

Option 1: Remove Old Account on Mobile App

 You will also need to remove the existing old account from the mobile app itself.

  • Launch the app on your mobile device that still shows an existing account.
  • Tap the account to view its details.
  • Access the Account Options
    • iPhone: Tap the three-dot menu icon (...) in the upper-right corner.
    • Android: Tap the three-dot menu or the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  • In the menu, select Remove Account or a similar option then confirm your choice if prompted.

Option 2: Remove Old Account in a Web Browser

If you are still logged into your account on another device's browser, you can remove the old Authentication device using these steps:

  • Navigate to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo.
  • Locate the device in the body of the page and Select Delete.

    The Device type noted on the left of the table will be Microsoft Authenticator, Push multi-factor authentication (MFA)
    The Device name will depend on the type of phone. Common devices such as iPhones or Samsung phones, will show up as iPhone x or SM-xxxxx, respectively.
