Centralized Course Evaluation (CCE) FAQ - Student

This is a Centralized Course Evaluation (CCE) FAQ for Students at UW-Stout.

What is Centralized Course Evaluation (CCE)?

CCE is a new way to administer course evaluations across campus. Instead of having each department responsible for administering their own course evaluations, the course evaluations will be administered through a central office using a third-party application software.

Which vendor is UW-Stout using for the CCE?

Explorance Blue (Blue).

Are all courses on campus switching to CCE?

During the Fall 2025 semester, about half the academic departments on campus will be switching to the CCE process. Starting the Spring 2026 semester, with a few exceptions, all academic departments and most courses will switch.

Home does it affect me?

If you are enrolled in any course for the Fall 2025 semester that is offered by a department switching to the centralized method of course administration, you will have a slightly different course evaluation experience from previous semesters.

What are the main features of CCE?

  • You will access the course evaluation through the Explorance Blue website.
  • You will receive emails letting you know when the evaluation for your course(s) opens and when it will close.
  • During the open administration period, you will receive friendly reminder emails for any course in which you have not submitted an evaluation. These reminders are automatically generated by the software, not by a person reviewing your participation status.
  • All emails will be sent from Provost_CourseEvals@uwstout.edu.
  • Instructors can see what percentage of your classmates have submitted the CCE. They cannot, however, see who did or did not complete an evaluation.
  • Your responses are confidential and will not be linked to your name, student ID, or academic record.
  • All analysis will be conducted in aggregate form. However, in rare instances, UW-Stout may be required to act on reports of discrimination, harassment, or disclosures of harmful intentions, including self-harm or harm to others.

Why should I evaluate my course? What happens with the information?

  • Student feedback describing student experiences in a course is useful for identifying opportunities for improving the delivery of the course.
  • Course evaluation results are considered during performance evaluations of instructors.

How do I provide my instructor with useful comments?

To help instructors and administrators best use your feedback to improve teaching and learning at UW-Stout, please be thoughtful and constructive when writing comments.

  • Specific, respectful, and constructive feedback is most useful. Consider what worked well for you as a learner, and what might benefit from improvement.
  • Focus on your opinions about the course learning environment which includes, but is not limited to, course activities and discussions, course organization, instructor and peer interactions, online platforms, and other technology.
  • Comments in the form of insults or based on stereotypes, personal appearances, or personal characteristics are not appropriate.
  • Inappropriate comments do not reflect the civil engagement we value as an institution, and they are generally not effective in stimulating improvements to instruction.

Which courses are excluded from CCE evaluation?

The following course categories are excluded:

  • Non-UW-Stout faculty led Office of International Education courses: TRDIS 477 DRCT and EXCH courses.
  • Independent study courses
  • Honors capstone and contract courses: HON CAP, HON CNRT 001, HON CNRT 002
  • Courses with < 16 instructional calendar days in length
  • Dual Credit/ Concurrent Enrollment
  • Courses determined by the Department Chair to not be appropriate for an evaluation.

How do I know which of my courses will be evaluated centrally?

Near the beginning of each term, your instructors should notify you if your course is slated for a CCE.

You can also log into Blue (https://uwstout.bluera.com/) to see which of your courses are being evaluated centrally. If necessary, enter your UW-Stout login credentials.

If my course is to be evaluated centrally, how do know when to evaluate it?

For courses that are to be evaluated centrally, near the beginning of each term, your instructors should notify you of the dates when the course evaluation will be administered (i.e., open and close).

You can also log into Blue. If necessary, enter your UW-Stout login credentials.

The day your course evaluation opens, you will receive an email from Provost_CourseEvals@uwstout.edu

For how long is the course evaluation open?

Course evaluations will open after 80% of the course instruction calendar dates have expired, and close after 95%.

When during the open administration period can I complete an evaluation?

You can complete the course evaluation anytime during the open administration period.

For in-person and synchronous online courses, instructors are to provide time for completing the evaluation completion during class, and to notify you when this will occur.

How do I access the course evaluation?

You will receive an email from Provost_CourseEvals@uwstout.edu letting you know when the evaluation for your course(s) open(s). Click on the link in this email to access Explorance Blue. Enter your UW-Stout credentials if requested.

Your instructor may also post a direct link and/or QR code in Canvas for evaluation access.

When will my instructor receive their course evaluation results for my class?

Reports are made available 12 days after the end of the term, which is one week AFTER grades are due to the registrar. No results will be made available to any UW-Stout employee prior to this day.

Who should I contact if I have questions, issues or concerns about or during the course evaluation process?

Contact the PARQ office by emailing Provost_CourseEvals@uwstout.edu.
