Getting Started With LastPass

This guide walks through the activation of LastPass as the university's official password manager.

Step 1: Requesting LastPass

Submit a request through the IT Service Portal to gain access to LastPass. Once approved, you will receive an email invitation to set up your account. 


Step 2: Activating Your LastPass Account

  1. Once your request is approved, you'll receive the following email. Copy the activation code and click the button to activate your LastPass account.

  2. After clicking the link, add the activation code from the previous step and click continue.

  3. Success. You can click the link to get to the downloads page.

  4. Afterwards, use the guides below for setting up passwords and using LastPass.


 Step 3: Export Passwords: 

Use the following guides for exporting passwords from Edge, Chrome, or Firefox:

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Select Settings and more (or press Alt + F)
  3. Select Passwords
  4. Select Export passwords
  5. Confirm by selecting Export
  6. Choose a secure location to save the file

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Select the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
  3. Go to Passwords and AutofillGoogle Password Manager
  4. Select Settings
  5. Scroll to Export passwords
  6. Select Download file

FireFox

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Click the menu button (three horizontal lines)
  3. Select Passwords (or Logins and Passwords)
  4. Click the three-dot menu (…) in the top-right corner
  5. Select Export Logins…
  6. Confirm the warning and authenticate if prompted

Once you have used the exported CSV file, we strongly recommend that you erase it by pressing SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete the file. 


Step 4: Import or Add Passwords

Step 5: Setting Up Browser Extension:

LastPass will typically prompt you to install the browser extension during setup.

Security Best Practices

  • Never share your master password
  • Enable MFA whenever possible
  • Only access LastPass on trusted devices
  • Regularly review and update weak or reused passwords
  • Delete exported password files immediately after use
