Adding Copilot Agents - A Step-by-Step Guide
Adding Copilot Agents - A Step-by-Step Guide
This guide shows you how to add a UW-Stout Copilot agent in Microsoft Teams, open it, pin it to your Teams toolbar, and start using it from either chat or the left-side Teams toolbar.
Use this guide when
You have been given a Teams install link for a UW-Stout Copilot agent.
What you need
Microsoft Teams and the shared install link for the agent.
After setup
The agent can be opened from chat or from the pinned icon in the Teams sidebar.
Step 1: Open the shared install link
Click the shared link provided to you. A new window will open in Microsoft Teams.
For Reboot, use Install Reboot in Microsoft Teams.
Step 2: Click Add
When the Teams app window appears, click Add.
This adds the Copilot agent to your Teams account.
Step 3: Confirm the agent was added successfully
After the agent is added, Teams will show a confirmation message that says the Copilot agent was added successfully.
You may see two options:
- Open: Opens the agent in Microsoft Teams.
- Open with Copilot: Opens the agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Step 4: Open the agent in Teams
Click Open to open the agent in Microsoft Teams.
Step 5: Start from the new conversation window
A new conversation window will open for the agent. You can type your question or prompt in the message box.
Step 6: Find the new icon in the Teams toolbar
After the agent is added, a new icon will appear in the toolbar on the left side of Teams.
You can use this icon to return to the agent later.
Step 7: Pin the agent to your Teams toolbar
Right-click the new agent icon in the left-side Teams toolbar, then select Pin.
Pinning keeps the agent visible so you do not need to search for it later.
Step 8: Ask your first question
Once the agent is pinned, ask a question or provide a prompt. Your conversation will appear in the chat section of Teams.
You can continue the conversation the same way you would continue any other Teams chat.
Step 9: Use, hide, or reinstall the agent as needed
You can interact with the agent from either the chat conversation or the side toolbar button.
You can also delete chat history or hide the conversation, just like other Teams chats.
If the agent stops responding or has very long response times, you can uninstall and reinstall it:
- Right-click the pinned agent icon.
- Select Uninstall.
- Use the original shared install link to reinstall the agent.
Tips for better results
- Use precise, context-rich prompts. Include the document type, timeframe, department, system, or task when relevant.
- Ask for citations, links, file names, or revision dates when source accuracy matters.
- Request short excerpts when exact wording is important.
- Refine your prompt instead of asking a very broad follow-up.
- Specify the format you want, such as bullets, numbered steps, a table, or a comparison.
- Clarify the intended use, such as summary, compliance check, troubleshooting, or procedural steps.
- For critical information, verify the source before relying on the answer.
