Canvas: Uploading Files to My Media

Canvas users have access to a student centered media content repository powered by Kaltura. My Media allows students and faculty to create and collect audio and video that can be shared within Canvas. Faculty can share media in the Canvas Announcements, Syllabus, Assignments, and Discussions. Students can share media content in Assignments and Discussions.

Media that is created outside of Kaltura My Media can be uploaded to your My Media library.  To upload media click the Account button in Canvas. Select My Media.

Click the Add New button.

Select Media Upload.

Select the file(s) to be uploaded. 

Kaltura accepts the following file video formats: .flv, .asf, .qt, .mov, .mpg, .avi, .wmv, .mp4, .3gp, .f4v, and .m4v. 

Kaltura also accepts the following audio formats: .flv, .asf, .wmv, .qt, .mov, .mpg, .avi, .mp3, .wav, .aiff, .mpa, and .wma.

When the media upload is complete enter a name, description, tags, and invite collaborators.

Media will remain private unless your instructor enables Media Space in Canvas. Private media can be shared by students in Assignments and Discussions using the Kaltura button on the Canvas rich text editor.
