Repairing Applications (Windows 10)

If something is causing an application to crash, you can try a repair on the application before removing and reinstalling.

Before you begin

You may be required to elevate the session using Admin By Request to complete the instructions below, as elevated permissions are sometimes required to repair/modify installed applications. Expand the panel below to read more on this.

Instructions

  1. In the bottom left, click the Search icon and type in Apps & features. Click to open.

  2. Scroll down to the application that you'd like to repair, click the application, and click Modify.

  3. This will open a new window asking how you would like to proceed. *NOTE - This screen is different for every application that you can repair.*
    You will need to select the option labeled Repair and follow the prompts.

    Here are a few examples of the screen that you may see:

    Example 1:

    Example 3:
    Example 3 shows Adobe Acrobat Reader repair dialogue

  4. Selecting the wrong option can remove the application from the computer. Please read the prompts carefully before selecting and confirming options.
