New Analytics Views and Features
Within New Analytics, you have the option of viewing based on weekly activity or course grades and individual students or whole class.
To change between Weekly Online Activity and Course Grade view, click the arrow next to the view and select either Weekly Online Activity and Course Grade.
Weekly Online Activity View
The default view is Weekly Online Activity for the whole class. In this view, you will see the average overall grade displayed at the top of the page.
Below that you will find two graphs broken down by day. The first graph shows the average pages that were viewed. Below that is a second graph that shows the average participation. Participation includes activities such as submitting an assignment, taking a quiz, posting to a discussion board, and .... To view activity from dates not displayed on the graph, you can scroll using the bar above the first graph.
Under the graphs is a summary of activity by students. This summary includes the number of page view and participation by student.
By clicking the Resources tab, you will be given a list of the resources that students have interacted with. For each resource, there will be a summary of the number of students that have interacted with the resource, the number of page views, and the participation for that resource.
To view analytics for an individual student, scroll to the top of the page and enter their name in the search field. This will change the view to include only data for that student.
Course Grade View
The Course Grade view displays a chart of the class's average grade for each assignment. Blue dots indicate assignments that contain data about student scores. Items that do not have data will appear at the bottom of the chart and will be designated as a open dot.
In the Course Grade chart, you can choose the types of submissions to be displayed by checking or un-checking Assignments, Discussions, or Quizzes.
Below the chart is a summary by student including their overall course grade, the percent of on time submissions, their last participation in the course, and their last page view in the course.
The New Analytics tool also allows you to message student directly from the tool. Click on the envelope icon at the top of the page. Then, select the group of students that you wish to contact and enter the subject and message. This will send the students a message to their Canvas inbox
To download the information from New Analytics, click on the download icon at the top of the page.
You may have a browser pop-up asking if you allow the download of multiple files. You will need to Allow for the file to download. The file will download as a zip file with separate files for each element of the page.
*Note: The Download feature will only download files for the page view that you are currently on. To download all of the data for a course you will need to download from both the Weekly Online Activity view and Course Grade view.
