Connect to VPN (Mac) - Legacy versions (Leopard, Snow Leopard)
Connect to Stout VPN on a MAC
This is a one-time setup procedure to create a Stout VPN connection on an Apple running an older OS. If VPN is already set up (as it is on most Stout-issued laptops) or this set up has already been completed, users need only to connect (skip to directions to connect).
Users of Lion (10.7) or newer, should see updated instructions.
VPN Setup for Leopard or Snow Leopard (10.5.x, 10.6.x).
Click on the Wireless Icon at the top right; select “Open Network Preferences...”
Click the + at the base of the network connections panel. A box to create a new service should appear. Use the drop-down menus to match the following settings:
VPN Type: PPTP
Service Name: Stout VPN
When finished click the Create button.
Type in vpn.uwstout.edu for the server address and Stout Username for account name. Check the "Show vpn status..." box, and then click the Authentication Settings... button.
Type in your UW-Stout password and click OK.
Click the Advanced... button.
On the "Options" tab, check the box next to "Send all traffic over VPN connection".
Click on the DNS tab, click the + button under "Search Domains" and type in uwstout.edu and click OK.
Click the Apply button and then close Sytem Preferences.
The set up is complete. Use the final step (below) to connect each time you need to connect to the campus VPN.
Click on the new icon in the menu bar (the upper-right corner of the screen) and click on Connect Stout VPN. This icon will be used to connect to VPN going forward.
