HP Power Cord Recall

HP Power Cord Recall - 2014

In 2014 HP announced a voluntary recall of some power cords shipped with HP laptops between September 2010 and June 2012. UW-Stout received a number of these now-recalled cords shipped with new faculty/staff computers and with a small number of student laptops. Because of the high number of cords on campus and because the cords can be swapped between users and adapters, users are encouraged to check all the power cords in their possession and areas.

Recalled power cords are all embossed with the code LS-15; not all cords labeled LS-15 are affected. The white sticker with a barcode on each of the cords provides additional information in the form of a date code.

HP has produced a reference to identify affected cords; please use this reference or the image below to identify affected LS-15 cords and read further for information on how to facilitate exchange if necessary.

HP Recall Guide

On-campus users with affected power cords can exchange them at the technology helpdesk in 109 Millennium Hall. Please bring the recalled cord for trade. Off-campus users can use HP's exchange procedure to return affected cords for replacement. Please note that LS-15 cords without white stickers should be exchanged as a precaution.

10/22/14 This recall is in effect for approximately eight years from this date
