Connect to VPN (Mac)

This document provides instructions for connecting to UW-Stout's VPN service on an Apple computer running OS X 10.7 or above, as well as Apple mobile devices.


To configure a VPN connection on an Apple computer running OS X 10.7 operating system or above,
  1. Download and run this utility
  2. When prompted, click "Continue" to install VPN Settings
  3. When asked if you are sure, click "Continue" again
  4. Enter your UW-Stout Username and click "Install"
  5. If prompted that the Configuration Profile Tool needs your username and password, use the credentials you use to log into your Apple/Mac computer and click OK

To connect to VPN from you Apple computer: 
  1. Click on System Preferences
  2. Click on Network
  3. Click on UW-Stout VPN L2TP
  4. Click the Connect button
  5. Enter your UW-Stout password

To show the connection in the menu bar (recommended)
  1. Click on System Preferences
  2. Click on Network
  3. Click on UW-Stout VPN L2TP
  4. Click the checkbox for Show VPN status in menu bar
  5. Click on the new menu and choose Connect UW-Stout VPN L2TP


Please note that macOS Sierra was released September 20, 2016; users who update will need to create a new VPN connection for off-campus use of some campus software
