Learn@UW-Stout -- Grades: Calculating Final Grades
Calculating the final grade is the auto-generated final grade which is based on the grading formula set up in the grade book.
Setting up the Calculation Options
Click on Grades in the navigation bar.
Click on the settings option in the upper right hand corner of the gradebook.
Click on the Calculation Options tab.
Final Grade Released
Select one of the two options under Final Grade Released.
Calculated Final Grade is the value that is under Calculated Grade field is released to users as their final grade.
Adjusted Final Grade is the value in the Adjusted Grade field is released to the users as their final grade.
Grade Calculations Options
Drop ungraded items is a setting that excludes ungraded items from the calculation of grades.
Treat ungraded items as a 0 is a setting that assigns a value of 0 as the points received for all ungraded items.
It is suggested to check the automatically keep final grades updated box.
Releasing Final Calculated Grades
After ensuring the settings are the same as above,
these steps will show you how to release final calculated grades.
Go to the gradebook.
Click on the drop down arrow next to Final Calculated Grade.
If you don't have the Automatically keep final grades updated box in your Gradebook settings,
you should recalculate the final grades at this time.
Click the drop down arrow next to final grades and choose Recalculate All.
First check to see that the final grades shown in the Final Calculated Grade column are correct.
To make these grades visible to the students, click the drop down arrow next to Final Grades and choose Release All.
After you click Yes to the confirmation prompt, your students can see their final grades.
The grades in the Final Calculated Grade column are visible to all of the students for whom
the Release Final Calculated Grade box is checked.
Release Final Adjusted Grades
On the Enter Grades page, click the drop down next to Final Adjusted Grade and choose Grade All.
If you didn't choose the Automatically keep final grades updated box in your Gradebook,
you should recalculate the final grades now.
Click the drop down arrow next to Final Grades and choose Recalculate All.
Follow the prompts in the window that opens.
Otherwise, proceed to next step.
The Final Adjusted Grade column contains the grades which will be released to students.
To begin, populate this column with the grades Learn@UW-Stout has automatically calculated for
each student by clicking the drop down arrow next to Final Grades and choosing Transfer All.
The Final Adjusted Grade column has been populated. You may now adjust these grades as desired.
Once you have adjusted all of the desired grades, click the drop down arrow next to Final Grades and choose Release all.
After you click yes at the prompt your students will be able to see their grades.
