Creating Shareable Content in Camtasia 9

This article explains how to take the content you have created in Camtasia 9 and produce it into a file that will play outside of Camtasia 9.

Camtasia 9 is available for free to UW-Stout faculty and staff for loading onto their computers issued by UW-Stout.

PC users should go their Software Center desktop app and install Camtasia 9. Instructions on using software center for PC are located here.

Mac users can use Self Service to install Camtasia 9. Instructions on how to install for a Mac are located here.

This article is about sharing content that you have created in Camtasia, If you have not created any content yet, you may want to view the tutorials "PowerPoint Narration in Camtasia 9" and "Editing in Camtasia 9." 

To share your content, you should have completed all your editing and save your project. When you have done that, open the Share menu and choose Local File.

After you choose Local File, the Production Settings window will open. If the menu choice is not already set to "Custom production settings" open the menu and change it. Then click the Next button.

In the next window, choose the file format that you would like to use. Unless you have special reasons to use a different format, the "MP4 - Smart Player (HTML 5)" choice is the best option.

In the next screen, you will see the Smart Player options. You can leave the settings the same if you want to. When you are finished on this page, click the Next button.

In the Video Optioins page, you will want to click the Options button in the upper right-hand corner.

After you click the Options button, click on the Author Information tab. Add your name, followed by "UW-Stout." You can also add other information if you wish to do so. Click OK when you are finished and then click the Next button in the Video Options screen.

In the Marker Options page, you can decide if you want to have a table of contents and how it will be set up. Shorter videos of less than 10 minutes may not need a table of contents. Click the Next button when you are finished.

In the Produce Video page, check the name of your file and change it, if necessary. Then check the folder that it will be saved to and change that, if necessary. When you are ready, click the Finish button.

After you click the Finish button, the rendering process will begin. Shorter videos tend to render rather quickly while longer and more complicated videos take more time.

When the rendering process is complete, you will see the Production Results page. After you view the information, click on the Finish button.

After you are done, you will want to check the video to ensure that it plays the way you expect. When Camtasia produces your video, it will create a folder with the name you have chosen. Start by locating this folder and then double-click to open it.

When you have the folder open, locate the MP4 file.

When you find the MP4 file, right click on it and choose "Open with" and then choose a media player and play the video.

Watch the video and make sure that it plays the way you expect. If it doesn't, you may need to go back and do additional editing and then produce your video again.
