HP Active Pen (HP Elitebook x360)

The HP Elitebook x360 comes with a pen to use on the touchscreen. This document walks you through the basics of how the pen works.

Identifying the Buttons


The Active Pen has two power options: USB-C or Battery

USB-C
  • These pens have a rubber cover near the eraser button.
  • Simply remove the rubber cover and plug in the USB-C charging cable
Battery
  • These pens do not have a rubber cover.
  • Simple unscrew the eraser button to add or remove batteries.
  • These pens require 1 - AAAA battery.

Please note that the Bluetooth connection cannot be set up until the pen has been charged (if USB-C).

  1. On your computer, in the bottom left, click the search icon.

    Search for Bluetooth

  2. Search for bluetooth and open Bluetooth and other devices settings.

  3. Click Add Bluetooth or other device.

  4. Click Bluetooth.

  5. On your Active Pen, press and hold the eraser button.

  6. On your computer, click the HP Active Pen.

  7. Click Done.

Drawing
  • The pen can be used in multiple applications to draw, such as: Word, Paint, Photoshop, Powerpoint, etc...
  • This is useful for creating artwork or annotating papers.

Equations
  • Within the Office Suite, the pen can be used to write equations that would otherwise be time consuming to create.
    Select draw > Ink to Math

    Write your equation into the window and select insert to insert the equation into the document

Presentations
  • Clicking the eraser button while presenting will move the slide forward.
  • The screen can be drawn on during a PowerPoint presentation to emphasize a point. These edits can be saved or deleted at the end of the presentation.
  • Pressing button 1 and hovering over the screen will create a white circle which can be used to point out specific areas. Rather than telling the audience to select a button, it is possible to point out that button.

  • While NOT in a presentation, click the eraser button to bring up a quick screen capture menu. These screen captures can be done with dragging the mouse or by drawing on the screen.
