Canvas: Renaming Courses
The course names for all semester-based courses in Canvas contain the name of the course only (by default). Instructors have the ability to rename their courses in Canvas to make it easier to find/select the correct course within Canvas.
It's recommended that instructors add the semester and course section (e.g., "FA19-001") to the beginning of their course names. For example, the original course name for BIO 101 is "Introductory Biology" and by adding the semester and course section, the renamed course name would be "FA19-001 Introductory Biology".
The following instructions are for renaming a course in Canvas:
- Open the course you want to rename and click Settings on the course navigation bar:
- From the Course Details tab, click in the Name field, and you'll be able to change the name of your course. (NOTE: Do not update the course code.)
- Click Update Course Details to save your changes.
