Providing live captions in PowerPoint presentations

Instructions on how to interface live captions in a PowerPoint presentation. This simple interface will allow presenters to display live captions to students that have hearing impairments or for students that may need additional help with hearing the presentation.

Open your PowerPoint and go to the Slide Show tab.
Click the box Always Use Subtitles
 Always Use Subtitles Highlighted


Subtitle Settings

  • Click on the drop down next to Subtitle Settings.
  • Chose the language spoken and the language you wish to have shown on the live caption. The captions can be translated into dozens of languages
  • Select your internal Microphone or if you are using an external mic select that device
  • Select the position for the captions on your presentation: Bottom (Overlaid), Top (Overlaid), Below Slide, Above Slide

This allows you to change the fonts, color, transparency, styles and backgrounds for your closed captions.
