Computer Lab Remote Access

Instructions for logging in to computer labs from off campus


**Please note that this access is in response to the Covid 19 crisis and will not be available once this emergency situation has been resolved**

Remote access to computer labs has been defined by courses in specific labs. Not all computer labs are available.

PC Labs

** These instructions are for connecting to PC Lab computers from a PC.  If you have a Mac and are connecting to the PC Labs, or are connecting to the Mac labs, please scroll down for instructions.**

For PC Labs:  Begin by going to https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/uwstout

Remote Access LabStats

This will display a list of computer labs on the left
Lab Names
Choose the lab needed by clicking on the lab name (MH185, FH104, etc.)


This will display a list of computers currently available in that lab. If a computer is not listed, it is currently in use or not available

Available Computers


To log on to an available computer click on the Connect button next to the computer name

A box will pop up with instructions to download and install the RDP connector

Download

Click the Download button and install the rdp file.

When the pop up box appears click Connect.

Connect

Enter your username (followed by @uwstout.edu) and password and click OKDo not click the Remember Me button.

Credentials

The logon may take a few minutes, be patient while the system loads.

**It is extremely important to Sign Out when done.  

Connecting to the PC Labs from a Mac

If this is your first time connecting to the PC Labs, you'll need to download and install the Microsoft RDP Client from here:

Once the RDP Client is installed:


Remote Access LabStats

This will display a list of computer labs on the left
Lab Names
Choose the lab needed by clicking on the lab name (MH185, FH104, etc.)

Available Computers


To log on to an available computer click on the Connect button next to the computer name

A box will pop up with instructions to download and install the RDP connector

Download

Click the Download button to download the RDP file.  Remember where you save it, you'll need it in the next step.

Double-click the RDP file to start the connection.  

** IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME USING THE RDP CLIENT:  You will be asked if Microsoft RDP Client can have access to your camera and microphone.  You can safely click "Don't Allow" for both, as these are unnecessary to use the lab PCs.   After this, the RDP Client will open but will not show any computers.  Close the RDP Client, double-click the RDP file again, and the connection should start. 


Enter your username (followed by @uwstout.edu) and password and click OK.


The logon may take a few minutes, be patient while the system loads.

**It is extremely important to Sign Out when done. ** 


Mac Labs:


Click on the link at the top of the page Click here for access to CT204 and MH175

On the landing page click the plus sign next to the lab name (i.e. MH175, CT204) to expand the list.

Click on the desired computer name.

Wait for the connection.  You will see a black screen.  Be patient, it will take a minute or two for the login screen to load.

Log on to the computer as you as if you were sitting in the lab.

**It is extremely important to Log Out when done.**
