macOS Tahoe (26) and Golden Gate (27) Support at Stout

macOS Golden Gate (macOS 27) was released on September 14th, 2026.  While we do not restrict anyone from upgrading, we recommend that folks wait for several updates before upgrading. (For instance, wait for version 27.2 or 27.3)  This allows for initial bugs to be worked out, and gives time for software manufacturers to deal with any compatibility issues.

Once macOS Golden Gate is deemed stable by IT, we will make it the officially supported macOS on campus and will begin to upgrade faculty and staff computers.  Until then, macOS Tahoe (macOS 26) is our officially supported OS for faculty, staff, and student Macs.

Students can upgrade at any time, but, like with faculty and staff, we recommend waiting until several updates have been released.

Labs will remain on macOS Tahoe (macOS 26) for the 2026-2027 school year to avoid any compatibility issues with specialized software.  The labs will be upgraded to macOS Golden Gate during the summer of 2027.
