macOS Sonoma Support

macOS Sonoma Support at Stout

macOS Sonoma was released in October 2023.  As in past years, it will not become our official supported operating system until early Summer 2024, when we begin preparing student laptops and labs for the fall semester.  Until then, macOS Ventura (macOS 13) will continue to be our officially supported operating system for Macs.  This timeline may change In extenuating circumstances (i.e. a security flaw is found that is only fixed in macOS Sonoma, etc.)

We do not restrict clients from upgrading to macOS Sonoma but if they encounter issues that require a reimage, they will likely be reimaged back to macOS Ventura.  (The exception being Macs that ship with macSO Sonoma from the factory.)

As with any new OS version, there will be bugs and software incompatibilities.   For the most stable computing experience, please wait to upgrade.  This gives Apple and software makers time to fix bugs and work out app compatibility issues.  Usually by the ".3" release (in this case, macOS 14.3), most of the major issues will have been addressed.
