Apple: Initial Setup of a Student Apple Laptop

Instructions for setting up a Student Apple MacBook Pro, valid for models deployed starting May 2024.

IMPORTANT: The computer may pause for a bit between some steps of the Startup Assistant, please be patient.

Initial Setup

    1. Power on the MacBook Pro.
    2. Follow the Startup Assistant to customize and configure your settings.  If you make a mistake or change your mind, many of the settings can be changed later in System Preferences.
    3. On the "Select Your Wi-Fi Network" screen, choose eduroam. Enter your full UW-Stout email address and your UW-Stout password. Click Continue.
    4. If prompted to verify the wireless certificate, click Continue.
    5. After several more screens, the Mac will display your desktop.
    6. A Microsoft AutoUpdate window will pop up.  Click OK on that window.
    7. You may need to reconnect to eduroam.  If asked to verify the wireless certificate again, click Continue, and then enter your computer username and password if requested.
