Microsoft provides updates to address new vulnerabilities, deliver important security patches, and introduce new features that enhance user experience and productivity. To ensure all campus devices remain secure and supported, we are making the Windows 11 24H2 update available through Software Updates. This update is required for all users currently running Windows 11 version 22H2 and will need to be updated by September 30th.

Who Needs to Update?

  • If you are on Windows 11 version 22H2, you must install the 24H2 update by September 30, 2025.

  • If you are already on version 24H2, no action is needed.

How Long Will the Update Take?

  • The complete process typically takes up to two hours to complete.

  • You can download the update and continue working. (May take approximately an hour and a half)

  • After the update is installed, the computer will need to be restarted to apply the updates. You can choose or schedule when to complete this.

  • Plan to restart to apply the updates at a time when you can pause work, such as before lunch or at the end of the day. (May take approximately 30 minutes)

  • Your device may restart several times during the process.

  • Licensing Note: If you experience any licensing errors after updating from off campus, they should be resolved automatically once your device is connected to the Stout network.

What Happens If You Don’t Update?

  • Devices that have not been updated by September 30th will receive the update automatically during the week of October 1.

  • This forced update may occur during working hours and could disrupt your workflow.
