OneDrive For Business: Sharing files to individuals outside of campus

How to share files outside of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with Office 365

You can collaborate directly with vendors, clients, or customers, using the external sharing features of OneDrive for Business to share content with people outside your organization.

There are two ways that you can do this:

  • You can share individual documents by inviting external users to sign in with their own Outlook.com or Hotmail.com email account.
  • Or you can create a share link to Anyone so anyone can assess the document or folder, even if they're not logged into Office 365 or OneDrive.  Use this option to share with anyone, inside or outside of University.  Note this link can be forwarded to anyone and used

Note: Only one person may log in to access your document using an invitation you send. However, the person who gets your invitation may decide to not use it, and instead forward the invitation to someone else who can then log in using their Microsoft account or work account to access the site or document.
