OpenJDK is a free and open-source implementation of the Java Platform, Standard Edition. It started as the result of an effort by former Sun Microsystems to open-source the Java development environment. Many builds exist of OpenJDK, and what components included in a build may vary.

Disclaimer: OpenJDK does not install to your program files by default, and it is recommended for long-term installations that you install it via your operating system's package manager. This can look different depending on what platform you are using. For example, on Windows you can install Java 25 via the terminal with the command
