Making Accessible PDFs in Adobe Acrobat

This article is about how to make PDFs accessible, check accessibility, and report accessibility status.

If you have a PDF you are using within your courses, it's important to make sure it is accessible for all students, including those using screen readers. By running Adobe's accessibility tool, it will automatically apply accessibility principles to make your document more accessible, including checking for Alt Text and color contrast, highlighting issues with tables and headings, and also helping you get started identifying the reading order, with heading labels and other structures.

In order to have the correct version of Adobe Acrobat downloaded, please follow these directions to download Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Acrobat: Adobe Creative Cloud: Start Here

After the correct version of Adobe Acrobat is downloaded, open the PDF you'd like to make accessible and follow these directions on Adobe's website to go through the accessibility process: Create and verify PDF accessibility (Acrobat Pro)
