Windows 11 Updates Required

Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 devices and all compatible machines will need to be updated to the most current version of Windows 11 (24H2) by September 30th.

Beginning on October 1st, updates will be automatically forced, and users will have no control over timing.️

  • A 3-minute timer will initiate the update—no postponement possible.

  • If powered off, the update will run as soon as the device powers on.

  • If interrupted mid-update, the system may become unusable.

  • Updates will occur at random times depending on your device status.

Please take the time to run these updates as soon as possible, to avoid disruption to your work.

Check Version

If you need to check what version you are on, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Start button.

  2. Type “winver” and press Enter.

  3. A window will appear showing your current version (e.g., 22H2 or 24H2).

Required Updates:

Windows 10 devices NOT compatible with Windows 11

  • These devices must be surplused and replaced if needed.

  • Per UW System Administrative Procedure 1036.A,“Endpoints with Operating Systems that have reached the end-of-life support shall not be permitted to connect to the UW’s networks.” 

  • After October 14th, these devices will be blocked from accessing our network.

  • Approximately 65 of these devices remain in our inventory.

  • Important: If you have a device that is not compatible with Windows 11 and is needed to run a program or device, contact your IT Consultant as soon as possible to discuss a mitigation plan.

Windows 10 devices compatible with Windows 11

  • These devices are running Windows 10 and need to be upgraded to Windows 11.

  • Individuals can run this upgrade from Software Center.

  • Approximately 135 devices remain.

Windows 10 to Windows 11 Instructions 

Devices running Windows 11 22H2 

  • These are devices running an older version of Windows 11 (Windows 11 22H2).

  • The Windows 11 24H2 update is available through Software Updates on your computer.  

  • The complete process typically takes up to two hours to complete.

  • Approximately 576 devices remain
