Making Accessible PDFs

This article is about how to convert unreadable documents into readable/accessible documents for screen readers.

To make PDFs accessible for screen readers, please use the following instructions:

1. In Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, open the document into that program and click on Edit PDF (1).  This will begin an automatic conversion process, but you may need to alter the settings in order for it to change every page into an editable page.

Edit PDF

2. To make every page an editable page, go to the Scanned Document settings and click on Settings (2). Select the box relating to making all pages editable (3). Select Ok (4). This should prompt Adobe to convert all pages.

Edit settings

3. Hit Save As to re-save the editable version of this file and either link it to a module in Canvas or embed the file into a Canvas page (5).

Save the PDF

If you find that you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro DC, please put in a Help Desk ticket with "software" as the subject and then select software install
