Networking Printing (Windows Computers): Installing Department Printers On Student Worker Laptops
Article on how to install department printers for student workers around campus.
Note: Printer installs are per user - Every user that logs into a campus computer will need to install the printer individually.
Add Credentials
- Open the Start Menu and search "Credential Manager"
- Go to Windows Credentials and press Add a Windows credential
- Type in the following credentials:
Internet or network address: "\\pcweb.uwstout.edu"
User name: Your UW-Stout email without "my." (ex: example1234@uwstout.edu)
Password: Your UW-Stout password - Press OK to save
Note: Anytime you change your UW-Stout password, you'll have to update your credentials here
Install PaperCut Client
Automatic (Recommended)
- Open the Start Menu and search "Company Portal..."
- In the top-left, search "PaperCut"
- Select PaperCut MF Client
- Hit Install
- Wait for the PaperCut icon to appear in the bottom-right corner
Manual
- Press Windows + R
- Enter "\\pcweb.uwstout.edu" in the text field and press OK.
- Navigate to PCClient\win
- Run pc-client-local-cache.exe
- Wait for the PaperCut icon to appear in the bottom-right corner
- Navigate to C:\Cache\pc-client.exe-<version>\
- Right-click pc-client.exe and Create Shortcut
- Move this shortcut to the desktop
- Ctrl + C (Copy) this shortcut
- Press Windows + R
- Enter "shell:startup" in the text field and press OK
- Ctrl + V (Paste) this shortcut
Install Printer
- Press Windows + R
- Enter "\\pcweb.uwstout.edu" in the text field and press OK.
- Find your printer in the list of available printers
- Right-click the desired printer and hit Connect...
- When the printer has been successfully added the print queue will open.
